What is the religious culture in Maine? By that I mean, is there a predominance of one religion, for example, Catholocism, Lutheran or New Age spirituality?

Thanks.

Southern Maine has all kinds. Because of the strong French background of the state, there are still lots of Catholics statewide. But also lots of Protestant churches. Hippies who moved up here and stuck around have their own sort of new age vibe. Several cities and towns have synagogues. Mosques are less common; I think there is one in Portland and one in Lewiston, but I'm not sure.

Once you get into the more rural areas of the north and west, it's mostly Christian churches.

But most Mainers have a very "live and let live" outlook on life. As long as anyone isn't trying to force their views on anyone else, they'll get along fine.

I would agree with what Mark said. I would also add though that the Northeast is basically spriritually dead. I don't know where you are coming from, but be aware of that. There are a few good churches around, but you really have to look for them.
