We moved to Maine the last week in March last year and stayed at a motel in South Portland for a week before moving to our new home just outside Portland.

Last year April was the tail end of winter, the beginning of spring. Snow was beginning to significantly melt in the spring sunshine and then there would be refreezing at night....there wasnt anymore fresh snow that I remember....by mid April crocuses/daffodills were out, the snow was pretty much gone except in the woods and sheltered spots....ground pretty wet due to massive snows of the winter melting....by end of April .... lots of flowering shrubs like forsythia, warm spring days, still cool at night and early morning but not freezing. Last spring we got most of our spring rain in May....not April....but I was told April can have a lot of rain usually.

From what I have learned, there is a lot of variation in Maine weather....temps and percipitation .... in April I would expect early spring conditions.....could be cool.....could be sunny.....could rain...could be cloudy.

April in all of New England is changeable, and capricious. As El has said it is usually cool- especially the first half of the month- coastal regions will be chillier in some cases, then inland locales further from the still cold waters of the Atlantic. Early April may see a snowstorm- especially in Maine, but sometimes even here in CT. There however may be mild to warm sunny days in the 60's 70s and even 80s sometimes.

Best thing to do is pack for chilly and sometimes wet conditions and hope for the best!.
