Can anyone recommend a bakery in Portland, I need to get a small cake for a friend's birthday tomorrow and want to get the best I can get. Thanks!

I'm not sure if it's still there, try Andre's. It used to be on Congress St but I think they've moved. Call information and find out where they are now. GREAT cakes!

I've never heard of Andre's - but as for Fabulous Bakeries in Portland: Standard Baking is WONDERFUL. But they don't do cakes. For cakes: try European Bakery in Falmouth (right near Portland) or Two Fat Cats or Foley's. For FANTASTIC bagels and yummy sweets - try One Fify Ate at Willard Square.

Foley's! Yes that's it, not Andre's! I have no idea where I got Andre's from. Is it still on Congress accross from Monument Square? I heard they had moved but I didn't know where. Standard is great but as you said, no cakes. Where is Two Fat Cats?

thanks for the replies! Funny my last name is Foley - so maybe I should try Foley's out! I did find Two Fat Cats online, they are on India St. and I believe that they are affiliated with Standard Bakery. I read some great reviews about their cakes. Hmmm decisions, decisions...

The only cake I've purchased since moving here was a Beal's Ice Cream cake. It was great.
