That commercial plays out here in WI too. I hit "replay" everytime so I can make myself feel even more homesick.

And here's the "extended version":

It is sorta weird that they drive by Portland Head Light on the way to West Quoddy, lol...

Maybe this is Subaru's way of thanking everyone in this state for making Subaru the "Unofficial State Car of Maine?"

No it isn't but they say they go there every year so it's either West Quoddy or Cadillac Mountain (supposedly) it's most likely a sound stage in LA or something. Not to be taken literally!

I don't think it is either, there is nothing to the north where Campobello Island should be, the furthest they could have driven the car is to the lighthouse itself, which is fenced in. Not showing the lighthouse itself destroys their cred.

I agree that it was probably not shot on location.

But with all the stuff possible with greenscreen & other technology now, I guess that's not terribly surprising. Then again... maybe it'll give some the idea of visiting Maine. They say all press is good press, right?

Hello all,

My family and I (in Jersey) along with our friends who live up in New Hampshire want to be the first to greet the new year in Maine. What is the best spot to go to? Can we actually do it or is this area closed off as one poster mentioned of the lighthouse? Are the any hotels or B&B's in the area we could stay and not camp all night? Is this greeting the new year thing they do in the commercial something people really do, or are we just crazy to want to try it? I have heard Cadillac Mountain offers great views and is a popular place to view the sunrise, but is not really the easternmost point - is this where we should be going? I have also read that Lubec and West Quoddy are the easternmost points. Are they accessible?

I really appreciate any info you all can provide. Also - if anyone has ever done this, would you share your experience?

Thanks so much

I've never done the New Year's sunrise hike to Cadillac in Acadia, but below is a link to the best route in the Winter.

Most of the park roads are closed, but there are two routes we access when we snowshoe or x-country ski. Breathtakingly beautiful to be virtually the only ones in the park after a fresh snow right above Sand Beach. Eagle Lake is crowded after a snow though.

You probably would have to stay in Ellsworth at Holiday Inn or Jasper's though, not too much open on the MDI (Mt. Desert Island) in Winter. Although Geddy's (bar/restaurant open year round) in Bar Harbor.

Truth be told, this is not the easternmost point of the U.S. to see the first sunrise, but it's darn close.
