Coldwater Creek has opened a store at the Maine Mall this month. Haven't seen it yet & don't know where it's located. I've been getting their catalogs for yrs.

Wow. Didn't expect my post to blow up like this. Anywho, I went down for a follow up because of my second lower back surgery (Recurrence of L4-L5/L5-S1[unsure which] disc herniation), and was afraid that the mall would close because of my relative. It was quite empty when I went, though, I mean emptier than it usually is. Thanks to the mall, I got my Christmas shopping done in TWO DAYS.

I also think...uhhh....I think I fell in love with the city. My dream is to browse around the Old Port for an afternoon. If I had a license I wouldn't care about the 5-hour drive and just do it.

Update on ME Mall: Did anyone else see the little item about owners of MM selling the malls they own in MD/VA? I moved here from MD in May, didn't know the malls I went to back there also belonged to MM owner. He bought Columbia Mall, Harbor Place Baltimore & Landmark Mall in Alexandria, VA from the man who originallhy built them & now he's trying to get rid of them. I never expected ME Office Depot to close - I didn't know there were only 2 in ME. My husband got a TGIF gift card for his birthday in Feb & we didn't know until recently that the TGIF in So. Portland was gone. If we want to use the card we have to go to Auburn- an hr away. He just got a Borders card for Xmas & I found out there are only 2 of those in ME. Stores in Old Port are going under. It's getting really bad.

There's actually a Fridays in Biddeford (just off the exit). Retail everywhere is being hit hard, but I would say the Maine mall is in better shape than most. It's small, but it's the primary retail center for nearly the entire state. People drive from hours north and get hotel rooms just to shop there.

Secondary malls will face trouble and closure long before the Maine mall does. Let's just hope this crisis ends sooner than later

Have yet to hear anything new, but I did hear that Westbrook approved the Stroudwater Place deal. Westbrook is in the hole finacially so any new income is wanted.

The Bangor mall gets a lot of daily traffic from Canada.

Does the Portland mall get this also?

I did not realize that a lot of Canadians went to Old Orchard Beach.

I have seen Canadian tour buses making the rounds in Bangor; the mall and each of the box stores, before heading back North again.

I have never been to Old Orchard Beach, I was not aware of that day-trip Canadians traveled so far South.

Is the selection of products that much wider? Or cheaper?
