True enough. I understand not wanting to have the noise and rowdiness.

I wouldn't consider drunks stumbling around to be nightlife, but more of a byproduct of it. In fact, if the nightlife is entertaining enough on its own, pouring down the drinks becomes secondary entertainment (I hate being drunk at a nice lounge or dance club... I feel sloppy and out of place). When it's boring or there's less to do people generally drink more. That said, any nightlife is going to have a number drunks, it's inevitable. You must get a kick out of watching it though

You will have your work cut out for you in trying to find a job here. Jobs are difficult to land right now. The reason is that many highly skilled people are out of work looking to be employed. The City is trying hard to prevent layoffs by negotiating with their unions, but even that doesn't garauntee layoffs come next July. Portland is close to Scarborough which tends to be a big hub for many trucking companies. Many companies are always looking for otr drivers.

I would put aside the idea of living by yourself. Rentals are expensive if you are going it alone. Search out a roommate or somebody looking to rent out a bedroom. This will help keep money in your pocket which will be well needed come winter. Many jobs that you may qualify for here will be seasonal. I would apply for any and all trucking jobs, public service jobs, and similar up here. Many places may skip over your resume if you don't have a local address too. A P.O. box may be needed in those cases.
