Portland is quite a nice city really, smaller feel than it's population would indicate, yet has a lot of what you would expect in a city that is larger. I LOVE going to a Seadog's game, and will say that the ballpark and its location in Portland is a gem. Much better than the ballpark in Grand Rapids. It is a bit quieter during a weekend than in the photos, but really not by a large margin.
Well maybe that's not normal but when we were in Grand Rapids for a conference at the Amway Grand I could not believe how dead that town was on a weekend! We had a hard time finding ANY stores open and forget bars. The only bar open was in the Holiday Inn or the Amway Grand Hotel! We drove out to the Grand Rapids Mall and it was a ghost town! I asked if it was normal for it to be that dead and was told that weekends people just take off from the city and go to the lakes! Any place that boasts the Gerald Ford library is dead from the start. The big event in town is a bed race! Yes a bed race! You'll never convince me to go back to Grand Rapids Michigan!
