B&M baked beans are actually probably as close to home made as you can get from the grocery store. They are actually cooked in large cast iron pots (probably 50 gallons) over a gas flame. I have a friend that worked there and took a tour of the factory years ago.

I drive by there almost everyday. I'll let you know when it goes back up. I feel the sign might end up like that railroad bridge though; lots of talk, but never fixed.

Thanks! I would imagine they have to make a new sign as it's very doubtful the original survived the fall from the roof intact.

Do any of you 'Mainiacs' know of State of Maine' brand canned beans? I used to find 'em when I lived I lived in NH 25 yrs ago. Far and away the best, in no small part because they used soldier beans, among others. Are they still available?

I love State of Maine dry beans......for baking. I find a couple of brands of canned baked beans up here in Maine that use Soldier Beans and Jacob Cattle beans.....but I dont think they are State of Maine they are "Atlantic". But they are GOOD! I will have to go down stairs and check the label....but not right this minute. If you google "Maine Goodies" you might find a site that has what your looking for.

Since B&M is now owed by a huge food company which produce dozens of familiar brands I wouldn't hold my breath. I did just email and asked them but I'm not holding my breath on getting an answer there either.

Well shiver me timbers I got a reply about the B&M sign from BG Foods. They advise that the sign will be replaced soon. WaHoo!
