Hi All,
We arrived in Portland two weeks ago from the UK & have discovered I am pregnant. I haven't even got my primary care sorted yet, so I would very much appreciate any advice on where to start with obstetricians. I am over 40, and this will be my 4th child. Three previous births were all normal delivery, but induced with pre-eclampysia. I am pretty relaxed with either midwife/OB delivery (I saw a 2008 thread which recommended Back Cove Midwives). All advice gratefully received!
Many thanks.

Congrats on your news, and welcome to Portland! What insurance are you covered under? That might determine who you can see (or at what cost, I should say.)

Thanks Lawmom! We are Blue Cross/Blue Shield - is this the info you're after?

Yes, and while I don't know who is on their panel, that's the best place to start -- look up who they cover, then narrow it down from there. I probably shouldn't have even replied to your thread because I have not had any experience with midwives or OBGYNs in Portland, but I hope someone comes along who can help better than I can.

I would check out

Ob Gyn Associates
887 Congress Street
Suite 200,
Portland, ME 04102
(207) 771-5549

They are directly across from Maine Med. They deal a lot with high risk pregnancies. I was considered high risk at age 37 for wanting a VBAC. They also have 3/4d ultrasound. Very advanced equipment.
Loved them.

I am partial to Mercy Hospital Birthing Center. You can tour the facilities and get ob/gyn recommendations from the hospital also.
