Sewing Classes in Portland/ Vicinity (design, rating, best)

My girlfriend is into fashion design (I know, it's so rare to find a young lady interested in fashion). She likes to design clothes and would like to take it a step further and actually make some of her creations.

My question is does anyone know of any courses or classes for begging sewers (no way that's the correct spelling!) in the Portland area? she's got a machine but knows very little about operating it. Any help is appreciated.

I'm the last person to know about sewing classes - but look what I found!
Go to sewmainedotcom -- they even a class/group called "Sewing by the Sea" and there's a link for several classes and events. I can't tell what level of experience they are - but it definitely looks like "the" place to call. Best of luck to your GF!
