Default Family moving to Portland area looking for a town/neighborhood with yard

My husband, myself and two little girls are moving back east to be closer to family. We are considering the Portland area. My husband is a chef and we hear Portland is a great food city. We are coming to visit next month and I am wondering where we should look to live. Looking for a place where we can rent an affordable house with a yard and dog. We hope to be able to walk to a park and have good schools around. We would also like to be close enough to have an easy commute to Portland. Also, anyone know what the job market is like in the restaurant industry? Thanks so much for your input!
