Default Portland hotel?

Sorry to bug you guys again about our Maine trip in August. I've been looking online for hotels in the downtown area. Can anyone recommend a hotel near the Old Port? Most of the places I've found online charge $250+ per night. I was hoping to spend no more than $150. Or is that too unrealistic for that area?? We'd also consider staying 10 to 15 min. outside the Old Port area, if anyone knows of a decent place?!?

Thanks in advance for your help !

I know that the Old Port can be pricey....especially this time of year. Also, if you wait too long to book in the summer you may have difficulty finding a room! When we go down we usually book out by the airport and drive into town. I think the signage in Portland is good---I'm not from there but don't have trouble getting around, and traffic even at it's worse may only slow you down 10 minutes or so. If you're not able to find something in your price range at the Old Port it may be worth it to look around a bit.

There are a few hotels outside of town in Falmouth. Its right off the highway and on route one so it would be easy to get to Portland and the Old Port. There are also hotels by the Airport.

On our trip in March, we stayed in downtown Portland at Inn at St. John. It was magnificent, but I can't say what the current rates would be like. We paid $60 for the night, but that was WAY off season! It's a beautiful B&B, but catered perfectly to our family with a very large, downstairs double room. It appears on their website that summer rates are still under $200 a night.

How is the location?

I was looking into staying here in June. The rates seem really good especially on weekdays.

Thanks everyone! Looks like The Inn at St. John it is! It looks wonderful. I made reservations already. A room with 2 double beds is $135 at the end of August. Not bad! Thanks for the suggestion, Elcarim!
