With your various needs I think picking the town first is probably the better bet and then go for the house. As long as you have a good, reliable home inspector you should be all set whether it is an older home or a new one.

I'd like to add that even though older homes can be very attractive, they can cost more too. Heat would be a major concern for me..esp. if I were looking at some large older home. Oil is at almost $4.00 a gallon. I find that the people "most" happy with older homes are the ones who have the money and desire to fix them up.

If you happen to have a child with " developmental delay", then definitely choose the Scarborough school district. We have dear friends with a child who has a mild case of autism . They were unhappy with services provided in Gray and moved to Scarborough specifically for that reason. They have been quite happy. Their child is now in High School and doing quite well.
Best of luck to you all!

Default thanks

Thanks for the feedback. I had an old thread that asked about special ed services and the school merger, but it ended up being a political debate between some posters. Maybe I'll run a new thread and hope they stay away from the politics!
