you're welcome jasyr. I forgot to mention that I love Dollar Tree, I buy a lot of stuff there. I've noticed their products are getting better. They still have a lot of absolute junk cheaply made, but I've expanded my shopping list there in the past couple years.

I should also mention that the local Farmer's Markets are outrageously priced. They are probably what they assert (organic) but really those places are for high qualify stuff and unique items.
Go for the entertainment!
(47th Ave. in the Hollywood District, in the Grocery Outlet parking lot, they have a website, Saturdays only)

Has anyone mentioned Cash & Carry yet? Sometimes they have really good deals.

Wild Oats bought local chain Nature's then Wild Oats was bought by Whole Paychecks.

I'm a big believer in quality and fresh - when I lived in Portland I shopped the farmer's markets, the local QFC, Fred's, Whole Paychecks (for certain items - cheese, bread, rice, some fish).

refuse to shop Wal-mart - note that the meat counter (in the local store anyway) has a sign up in the corner saying "meats a product of US, Canada, Mexico." I want a bit more accountability than that.

Although Fred's did the same things when they switched from Coastal Organics chicken (a local Oregon company) to some "Private Selection Organic" supplier out of Ohio somewhere - buying organic from thousands of miles away defeats the POINT.

Yeah, Nature's was on its way out when I first moved here. There was one left and it closed soon after. Whole Paychecks, that's about right! And how does Wild Oats on Burnside even stay open?? I don't shop Whole Paychecks for the same reason I won't shop WalMart. You entered the store (the meat) - I won't even do that. I can find my bargains elsewhere, thankyouverymuch.

I'd like to find a place for truly tasty organic chicken. In recent years the chicken tastes like chemicals and I end up throwing it away after cooking, unless I mask it heavily with herbs, spices and marinade. Still don't like wondering what I'm really eating though!

There's a Walmart in Wood Village, too? I thought just in SE and in Happy Valley... And Vancouver, of course.

It's a big Walmart. Or super, or whatever. Off 238th north of I-84.

Safeway and Albertsons are doing these new "specials". The store tag will say, "$2.99" then in smaller print, "when you buy 4 or more".

Out in Oregon City, Hagen is expensive, but very good food quality.

On 82nd and Powell is Food4less which is about the same as Winco, but to me, has better produce, if you're not into organics (inorganic fruit?). They used to have a "dollar" aisle as well.
