I wish we had Fred Meyers in San Francisco. They are such wonderful stores. I was shocked when I moved to LA & couldn't find any stores with the kind of full service that good old Freddies has. I lived on 39th & Stark at one time & frequented the Hawthorne Freddies. I'm glad it's still there. FM was one of the first markets to incorporate a health food section into it in Portland. You really can get everything you want at those stores.

One of the worst changes was the 'remodelling' of Lloyd Center. It was an architectural timepiece with all of the whimsy the architecture of 1960 featured. The Nordstrom shop had all of these round marbles in its exterior walls. Too bad no one had the foresite to preserve it in its original form.
I haven't been around there for awhile. I work at 6th and Taylor. For a lont time the Galleria was a ghost town. Now I understand the Culinary Arts School which was on 12th and Jefferson moved in so the building is still intact. I think (not sure) Made in Oregon is still there too.

I'm going to Seattle next month for my nephew's wedding & I'm really hoping to be able to get down to Portland for at least one day. I've read on this board that some of the natives don't like all of the changes that Portland's gone through. I, for one, like them. Unlike Seattle, Portland has gotten better as it's grown.
