Default Good High Schools in Portland/Beaverton Area

Does anyone have reccomendations about high schools in the Portland/Beaverton area? My ideal school would be on the smallish side, with great teachers and challenging academics. Riverdale seemed to meet my requirements, but I was a little confused about whether there were tuition costs or not. I'd love to hear any suggestions about high schools or any information on Riverdale and their fees.

Jesuit. Is the cream of the crop. Both academically and athletically. It's located basically in Beaverton but has a Portland address. You can visit http://www.riverdale.k12.or.us/ for more information on Riverdale. If you need anything please let me know...

Thanks for the reply Brandon! Jesuit looks great, but unfortunately, my family can't afford to pay $11,000 to send me to high school. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks again!

I've heard good things about Lincoln public HS in Portland. Good luck. I think it's great that you are doing your own research into your education. Check out the Portland Board of Ed's website. Lots of info.

Look up Benson.

Can you drive?

Don't think you would want to live near it.

Lincoln is alright.

In general, I'd never put my kids in a Portland public school. Suburb yes.

Thanks mdaven!

Yup, I can drive. My mom is looking at a job in Beaverton, but she'd be willing to commute (especially with Portland's amazing public transport!) if there is a school elsewhere that is a good match for me.

May I ask why you avoid Portland public schools?

What in particular is special about Benson?

I really appreciate the advice!

Lincoln High School (Portland Public Schools) is one of the best in the area. You have to live somewhat close to downtown to be within the borders though.

Oldtintype sort of said part for me, but I'll elaborate.

Lincoln is like the only good high school there. If your hear about Portland schools, or read about them on forums, there's a reason why that name comes up. Why is it that none, or almost none, of the other high school names are never mentioned of such a large school district?
It's near a rather wealthy area of Portland - that's the reason.

As for many other Portland high schools - move here, and you'll understand.

Benson is a high school that's like a technical & trade school education merged with high school education.

Last time I heard anyway. I had a room mate who graduated from there in the 70s, so I've always kept an eye on it.

As far as Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard, Lake Oswego, etc., take your pick of about 1/2 the schools in each.

Look at it this way - are there any good schools in LA - or around LA? Sure, Beverly Hills is probably one real good place to look. But you have to buy your way into the schools there through a home purchase.

Lincoln is a bit like that.
