Assuming you have good performance evaluations at Whole Foods if there is an opening at a local Whole Foods store you have a high % of being hired. In HR there is the adage: better the devil you know than the devil you don't know.

Best wishes.

I've heard a lot of talk on this form about how hard it is to get a job, but I have a sneaking suspicion that people are talking about professional or career jobs.
Absoulte opposite is true. As many have already stated. See for yourself. Google the larger companies in Portland and go to their website. Take a look at the jobs available. Most of them are so high level the average person can't understand what they are.

Now go to companies with the type of jobs you think are available. You won't find a whole lot of dishwashers, waiters, store clerks etc. If you do, remember there are hundreds just like you already here vying for them.

If you can get a transfer with Whole Foods, that would be gold. You are in an enviable position that you even have that opportunity. Very few people come here with that much of a foot in the door.

If you can get that transfer you can start working there and then see what else you might be able to find if want to work elsewhere. If you are already here, you will be able to network which is very important in getting a job in this town no matter what level job you are seeking.

I'm like you in that I'll go and get the job I need to survive and then look for the job I want. I always look for Casino Dealer jobs first, then Valet, then waiter, and last cook. I haven't had a problem either time I've moved to Portland. It helps to have some juice here but if your consistent and hit the pavement everyday you shouldn't have a problem. You could try dealing cards for Wild Bills or All About Fun just as a part time gig at first. You don't need any experience. Let me know if you want the info on the companies and I'll send it to you. Have a good one.
