Default Great, safe place for a young couple to live in Portland.

Hello everyone. My boyfriend and I are seriously considering moving to Portland to go to school. We are in our early 20's and would like a nice fun safe neighborhood. We would need to rent. I was wondering what prices are like there, too. Any help would be greatly apprecited, thankyou all!

This depends entirely on what schools you are looking to attend.
UP is in North Portland
PSU is kind of down town
Lewis and Clark is South West-ish.

Mass transit is pretty good, and the city isn't too big, so you could get to any school pretty decently in most locales in Portland.

The amount of money you want to spend will be your biggest determinant. What are you looking to spend?

Most places are pretty safe in Portland.

please Google: Moving to Portland
A couple of hits for web sites hosted by real estate ladies will describe the neighborhood, and the unique 'flavor' of each neighborhood. Use with a map, and you will become better able to ask questions many of us who post regularity here can answer with clarity.

Compared to other vibrant urban cities, almost all of Portland is safe. Or are you talking about living in suburban Portland, and commuting long distances to class? But that extra cost of time and money to commute will become a real pain in the neck. FAST! Did you want to live in an area with a higher concentration of people your own age and also attending college? Or would you prefer a more age diverse and employment diverse neighborhood?

Read the web sites from the above Google search.
