I've been here for close to a month now, and I just don't understand this:

How can Oregonians (Portlanders especially) claim they are all into the healthy/vegan/organic/fit and/or nigh socialist lifestyle when almost everyone here SMOKES?

Tons of smokers on PSU campus (even where smoking is supposedly banned in some areas).

Everyone ******* about how the smoking ban is encroaching upon their civil liberties.

People protest Nike, Intel, for crap they do. And there's only like 2 Walmarts in the state and no Sam's Club... But Portlanders sure like to shovel the big bucks over to Big Tobacco.

Nevermind the lies, lobbyists and lung cancer; Portlanders turn a blind eye. Portland, OR can support Big Tobacco even if smoking were to be banned across the country.

Fresh Air please? Doesn't matter how many trees are in the city you know...

Al of us?? Where is this claim published? I don't recall making any kind of pledge. If I did, then I am in extreme violation.

I don't know what the poster's social circle could be, none of my friends or family members smoke.

Oregon and Portland has laws limiting smoking in public places. Yes, there are a few annoying smokers. I just avoid them in the same way I avoid others indulging an addiction.

My husband, who hates smoking, often tells women who smoke "You smell bad." Evidently few realize that they have body order from smoking. That moves the conversation from their health to their attractiveness.

Well all the cool and hip people here smoke all natural American Spirit Cigarettes.
They are so awesomely cool and natural they counteract any health negatives about smoking.

Portland is one of the smokiest cities I have ever seen. Whenever I go downtown, I see people smoking everywhere.

Economies are tough. Cops need to divert their effort to offensive littering citations from traffic citations.

It was much much worse a few years ago, when it was legal to smoke inside bars, clubs and restaurants. It is now completely prohibited by ordinance.

Those are people from large office buildings. It looks like there are a lot of them because they all gather in bunches in the limited places where they are allowed to smoke. I see this in other cities too.
