Casinos don't force you to spend a dime, nor do they chain you to the slot machine or table. You can leave at any time...winning or losing.

I love playing craps. Certain craps bets have statistically high winning percentages. Because of that, you can often play craps for hours with the same original bankroll. You also have to be smart about your mentality going in to the casino. I typically take $200 and when it starts dwindling down to nothing, I leave. But I had fun playing and it was worth the loss. A loss I was willing to take going in to the place. If I'm winning, I'll leave when I make, say, $100. You just have to set your boundaries and stick with them. A casino is not a place for people who are trying to make ends meet. Thats when it gets dangerous.

I left Portland, but if I was still there and this casino had been built back then, I would definitely visit.

I agree...A good craps table can be a fun time...The side bets and different betting options make the game interesting.

If this casino has a good number of table games--roulette, craps, blackjack(preferably single deck), and some poker rooms--I'll probably go once in a while. If it's just slots and video poker for the most part---I wouldn't have more interest in it. I've stopped at Spirit Mountain on the way to the coast and it seemed kind of boring except to play a few hands of black jack. Kah Nee Ta Resort over on the Warm Springs reservation is a little nicer, but I've never gambled there much.

The problem with some of the Indian casinos in the West is that they attract a kind of low-rent crowd and/or they just bus in elderly senior citizens from the old folks homes--which is kind of reflective of where they are located, but it's kind of sad as well. Some of them sort of make Reno casinos look glamorous by comparison. The casinos are alright to stop once and a while--but they aren't attracting many high rollers or people from out of the area looking for a gambling vacation.

As of late night on Election Day....
It looks as if the Casino question failed in just about every county in Oregon.

And the measure lost big time in the three counties around Portland.

I voted for it. But I wouldn't go because it's just not my kind of entertainment. I go to Vegas to see the shows. H'mm I guess if they had entertainers I liked at the Gresham casino I would go. I just wouldn't gamble. I'm too cheap.

I'm suprised the casino measure lost so badly...Apparently the backers are already ready to try again for the 2012 election. Their argument is that there are plans for a huge casino built on the Washington side of the metro, so it's better for Portland to just have one in East Portland and keep the revenue here.

I wonder how much the fear of loss of revenue in other areas with popular Indian casinos played in the overwhelming defeat of this measure. I mean Lincoln City has done pretty well with Chinook Winds, and you've got areas around the state that have benefited from increases in tourism from having an casino nearby. Or if people in Portland and the Willamette Valley just didn't care about another casino and rejected what was basically a poorly developed campaign by the casino backers.

GOOD. Those people have a bit more sense.

No, they don't hold a gun to your head to make you play..but they may as well when they KNOW people are desperate for money and they play on that psychologically with their ads etc. Personally, I've seen a lot better odds in Vegas & Reno and played for a lot longer on my meager bankrolls. The indian casinos are out to scalp the white man and nothing more.

But hey, vote for your savior.. ooops, I mean Indian casino. Then watch your community slowly deteriorate. Casinos bring nothing good when they come. Remember that. and as far as I can see, with their "Tradition of giving"... Translation: "We give to ourselves"

I'd go a few times a year. See a show, have dinner, play the slots for an hour.

Better entertainment than listening to some whiner telling me how to live my life.
