While its understandable to require a permit to install new electrical service, or build a deck, the small things Portland require permit on is pure scam.

On Portlandonline.com, it isn't listed as "apply for a permit" it's listed as "BUY a permit". It isn't about making sure things are done properly. It's about selling a "pass" to line the city's wallet.

For God's sake, you have to "buy" a $32 plumbing permit to install a clothes washer.

I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually require an electrical and low-voltage permit to install a TV and even more if you were to attach it to the wall.

You're getting upset over simple verbiage. Of course you buy the permit. You always have. You didn't use to apply for a permit, have the work done, and then have the permit issued. You did then what you do now. You pay for a permit, post the permit while the work's being done, and then have it inspected and approved. You always have, and you always will.

As for installing a clothes washer. You've obviously misunderstood that it is for plumbing a clothes washer. Not for plugging one it.

According to the form you linked to it will be more than $32.00. The minimum fee for a plumbing permit is $70.00 + 12% state surcharge.
