Just moved to PDX this week, and feel like there is a ton of rain. Is this considered a lot of rain for this area? I have been here since last Saturday. It rains a lot, especially yesterday and today. Can you please give me idea how that is compared to normally? Thanks!

Un-usual.

Note: a lot of strange weather and seismic activities are being blamed on the fact of how close the Moon is orbiting the earth on this pass. Closest moon will be to earth in over 19 years will occur on March 19th of this year.

Google: supermoon.
Astrologer Richard Nolle says the March 19 Supermoon will cause major earthquakes or other disasters. Scientists are not expecting any major disasters from the supermoon. | Space.com

Back around beginning of March 2011, a few articles were predicting major earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes. The predictors have all shut up since the events in Japan and the eruption and lava flow in Hawaii.

And the weather all across the USA in the last few months was a bit unusual also. Expect some more Portland weather variation until the moon naturally returns to a further away orbit.

Phil

Yes, we are getting a lot of rain, even for us. As Phil mentioned the weather across the US seems a bit extreme lately. I would rather have our rain than what others are coping with.

I sincerely hope that if we get an earthquake in the west it will be only a mild or moderate one. Frankly it would be nice to have a series of mild earthquakes as they will release some seismic energy.

IMHO this winter has been unusual for us in that its been a little more extreme in its variety. We've had more sun than usual, but when it rains (like the past few days) it has been heavier than typical. Usually PDX has A LOT of days of cloud cover but it is rare that we get more than .50 to .75 inches of rain in any 24 hour period. Think light rain and frequent drizzle. When people (including me!) complain about our winters, it is about the constant cloud cover and lack of sun more than the amount of rain.

Thanks for all your answers! Actually seems very pretty so far, love how green it is! Never seen trees with green on the tree trunks. The rain was a bit excessive but seems to be slowing down a bit
