I moved from midwest, and I take 2 showers a day (always have). My towel always dry by morning and by evining. Not in Portland. I am here a little while, just moved. And my towel is moist in the morning. Also, tried to dry my pants after laundry (air dry) and they were still wet later on. Anyone relate with that? Is that because it's so wet here, as opposed to dry? I know in MN my skin was always dry, which it is not here. Wondering if there is a connection.

I don't live in Portland, but can definitively say that it's the humidity level. You won't need to water your plants as often, either, if you have them. Good luck in your new city!

Ah, but in the Midwest, East, and South one uses a dehumidifier in the summer, and maybe a humidifier during winter in the upper Midwest...

So... When I moved to Portland, and found out as you did, I needed a dehumidifier in PDX during winter and all thru spring, dehumidifiers were not available for sale. I could buy a dehumidifier in July or August; July and August in Portland has afternoon humidity of about 35%, which is very, very dry. Very late in August, Dehumidifiers even go on a 'end-of-season' discount sale.

Have you ever been around and read one of my rants about the 'One-Size-Fits-All' suburbia cut & paste mentality of sameness and blandness?

Anyway, I think it was last July's issue of Consumer Reports had a review of roll-around dehumidifiers for apartments and small homes. Spot on...
BTW, I used the WalMart's free shipping to a local store for in-store pickup. Normal shipping charges were a deal breaker for me.

{Excuse me, I have to empty the water tank on my dehumidifier, now}

Phil

Those thick "luxurious" towels are a waste of drying energy. I have no problem air drying the thinner versions on our bathroom towel bar.

Because you are using the shower often make sure there is lots of ventilation in the bathroom, even leaving the door open as much as possible.

Yes I noticed that when I moved from the Midwest. There is a lot of dampness in the air that goes along with the rain. Even when there is snow, Midwest winters are drier and most heating sources dry out the indoors to add to it.

But really it's no big deal. You can get a dehumidifer but I have managed to live without one. Just plan on longer drying times and nice moist skin.

get 4 towels. Each towel needs 2 days to dry out. That's life in Portlandia. 8)

I can relate with that....it's no fun and it causes chapping. As soon as they were on sale I bought a second pair.

Don't worry, your towels will only be moist from late October until mid-July.
