My husband and I are planning a one-night getaway in mid June. We're outdoorsy (like hiking, kayaking, relaxing) and would love something not more than a 2-hr drive from the city. My husband isn't really a wine drinker, so I think the Willamette Valley might be out. A friend mentioned Carson Hot Springs, but when I checked TripAdvisor, the reviews were either really good or awful -- not much middle ground. I'd love any -- and all -- advice. Thanks!

Only two hours is a bit limiting, but I'd suggest Astoria. You can hike along the beach at Fort Stevens, but you'll want to reserve a camping spot or hotel now.

You could go to Hood River and go wind surfing, or hike on any of the trails in the Gorge.

Mary's Peak - west of Corvallis is a nice hike around and then to the top of the hill. You'd need to stay in Philomath or Corvallis. Just under 3 hours though.

I like going to Florence and hiking along the beach there. It's quite relaxing, and except for the dune buggies a bit further south (and even then mostly during tourist months,) usually fairly deserted.

Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood might be another option at that time of the year. The Timberline trail is 37 miles long and circles the mountain; Oregon Hikes - Timberline Lodge

Thanks -- the possibilities are overwhelming. I think we've talked my folks into babysitting for two nights, so we'll be able to drive farther. Anyone know anything about Yachats?

Astoria is my favorite place to bring people for an overnight adventure. Its an amazing, historic city a few minutes drive to the Ocean. Lots to do in town and close by, Variety of hotel, food and entertainment options.

Yachats is cute, but if I had three days to play I'd go to Historic Nye Beach (in Newport) and play there.

If you want to get away from people you could consider one of these (definitely on my agenda in the fall). But if you're looking for something more luxurious with maybe some nightlife it wouldn't work out. They have them in lots of areas of the state.

If you got two nights, I'd go to Florence, Lincoln City, Fossil, Pendleton, John Day, or Baker for that time. Get out and drive a bit to really experience Oregon.

I don't know if this is your cup of tea but I love McMinnemen's Edgefield Hotel in Troutdale. They have a great hotel a restaurant, a theater and live entertainment. The grounds are fun to walk around too. There is an herb garden and interesting buildings to explore. You can also watch how their beers are brewed.

It's fun, it's close and while the food is not gourmet, it's typical McMeinnemen's fare which I kind of like once and awhile.

For my money you can't beat Hood River in the summer. Greatest place on earth.
