pdx is all anti-growth and anti-business
they only have 1 F500 company HQ here and its gonna leave by 2015 their skyline is a laugh to see and even funnier at street level they dont build cities here, they build communes... |

that's funny.
but somehow strangely true. PDX will continue to build mid-rise towers both downtown, south riverside, and lloyd center. But a new tallest is unlikely, atleast in our lifetimes. |

I certainly hope not.

Nancythereader, you sound like you are a transplant from skyscrapercity. Nothing wrong with that, but Portland is not a city that wants tall buildings. They want density, yes, as long as it is close to light rail. But they don't want to be Seattle or Bellevue. If you are a fan of high-rises, you need to be about 170 miles north.

There are plans to build a skyline in beaverton because the Portland city council is unwilling to change the height restrictions. In the next 75 years the downtown portland area is supposed to get 2x as many sqft of buildings. This is supposed to take place mostly in the south waterfront and rose quarter areas. There are very few high rises planned in the city center due to the rule that buildings must not be above a certain percentage of the height of council crest. I for one would like to see a more extensive skyline.

That's why I said, "I certainly hope not...." I do not like tall buildings. |

But the last thing PW72 said was:
"But a new tallest is unlikely, at least in our lifetimes." And you said you certainly hope not, which would lead one to believe that you do, indeed, like tall buildings. ![]() |

In my point of view i think that a tall skyline doesnt make a downtown its all bout the street life, portland has that, some parts of NY may have taller skyscrapers but sum are just tall residential tower with no shops, salons etc... around it,
In other news portland is getting lots of skyscrapes: PRoposed PAW tower at a hieght of 515 feet. wow Rumored broadway tower higher then 500 feet. First and main and so on |

I like Mt Hood, St Helens, and occasionally a few others being my skyline.
ANYWHERE can have tall buildings...how many cities have majestic mountains? |
