We just found out that we got the rental in Milwaukie!

It is a gorgeous, newer construction home that is everything that we could have wanted. Remodeled kitchen and really nice appliances (I'm an avid cook and baker, so I need a set up kitchen!) 3 huge bedrooms plus an extra den space, and a 1/2 acre yard for a dog (shh, don't tell the cat...)! We're looking into rescuing (We've stopped by the Family Dogs New Life Shelter, we really liked the place), but we have always loved Bernese Mtn Dogs so are considering a puppy. I left my ducks behind in San Diego with my ex and I miss them, but I don't think I want ducks here...it's in the Jennings Lodge area and kind of rural.

The best thing is that my ex's cousin (whom I became good friends with) is a basketball player at the Portland Bible College and is bringing the team to help us unpack!

Now I'm going to change my address with the post office, get my OR drivers license and get new insurance!

Now we're going to need to replace our furniture and a tv, we've been looking at Estate Sale ads and are probably going to hit up a few of those this weekend.

Does anyone know of any cool furnishings stores? All of the furniture that we kept is Indian rosewood that was privately made and imported from India. We are kind of going with the Indian/East Asian design. To give you an idea of what we like... CoHabitat - Unique Home Accents That was our favorite store in San Diego.

My family and I are so excited to finally have a place to stay and get to be settled in Portland and begin our adventure as official Orgonians!

To be a true Oregonian is to embrace rain. In time, your feet will actually become a bit webbed. Then, I say then, you will know you're becoming a true Oregonian. Until then, you're just like any other poser.

Now, you can get a temporary Oregonian persona. Put about 8 Obama bumper stickers on your car, scream obsenities at even the nicest of people who aren't liberal, ride your bike thru stop signs cutting off drivers and give them the finger... that kind of stuff. We locals call it "fast tracking Oregonians".

LOL I AM a trained and true California driver, I won't have a problem. Sometimes I feel bad about driving so aggressively.

My car is full to the brim with bumper stickers, I'm trying to make more room. No Obama stickers (in San Diego my car would have gotten keyed for that).

And I can't wait for the rain! I am much more comfortable in cold weather rather then the sun.

Says something about "conservatives", doesn't it?

Yeah, well my neighbor got his tires slashed and the passenger side of his car spraypainted with obscenities because of his McCain/Palin sticker.

Says something about "Liberals" doesn't it?
There are nut jobs on both sides.

Anyway, to be a true Oregonian, get out of fantasy-land Portland as much as you can to see what the rest of Oregon is like.
Go camping, go sightseeing, go winetasting, go to the coast, etc. Learn about Oregon.
Things are different here.

BTW, aren't you glad now that you didn't blow $1300 a month on Felony Flats?
(Excuse me, I should say Brentwood/Darlington)

That's why were leaving. It's the general Southern California area. I'm not even kidding you, if you donate money to planned parenthood and then go into your bank and make a deposit they all sneer at you when they see that transaction. I've had to call 911 when one of my coworkers got beaten up outside of the AIDS clinic we volunteered at. I got followed home one night by a guy in a BMW screaming at me for my No on Prop 8 (banning gay marriage) sticker. It's so hard to be there with so many closed minded people.

Oh we are so glad that we kept on looking! I was seriously sketched out when the property manager had a bar on his steering wheel in his Honda when we went over to talk about rent and to fill out an application.

I can't WAIT to explore out here! We're going to Beacon Rock today (it might be a little hot...all well). I have all of my camping gear unpacked and am planning on going towards to coast to go camping.

My family and I are travelers - we don't stay at home on weekends, we go out and explore. We're always hiking, camping, or exploring.

It does indeed! In Portland in the last Presidential election season there were over 25 reported acts of Obama supporters intentionally ramming cars with McCain stickers (minor injuries to several drivers/passengers) and 1 house set ablaze by an Obama supporter (front page story in the Oregonian) as that house displayed a McCain yard sign. The family was able to escape unharmed.

Those zany Portland liberals are pretty violent.

That's one reason I do not have bumper stickers on my car. The volunteer work we do at shelters have brought us no problems so far.
