Why assume I am a Conservative/Republican? Because I stated there are still some left in the Portland area? Hmmm. And yes, smelling like a dumpster is never appealing, regardless of your political status! And just for the record, I hate tea!!!

Before we go any farther I need to mention that this is getting off topic.
The main topic is adjusting to Portland.

And on another note-- Even if you never "learned good habits", showering is common sense and should be thought of on a daily basis. Maybe it's all that weed consumed and it messed with the brain cells??

Back on topic, my only issue with the adjusting here has been the hard core socialists and smelly hippies. hehe.

Oh come now you know you LOVE them Just put the politics aside, don't worry about their hygiene and invite them over for dinner That's what I call being a good West Linn neighbor I believe Portland Conservatives can learn to love the socialists, poor, homeless and all those things they "consider to be odd." I believe in LOVE. Nature girl it's time you hug a tree You are long overdue

Nature girl is hillarious with her remarks. Each time I get a visual of her "saying those things" tears of laughter fall from my eyes

Well happy to have inlightened you! I love trees, I love people, I just prefer them to smell decent. That's really my only beef. I could care less about the politics of it all. But then again socialist's are always right, and anyone who doesn't follow their beliefs are wrong. Come on, don't deny it supernova!
Sorry about getting off topic again, but this is my biggest adjustment. Considering everything else, if this is my only issue, Portland is a pretty cool place to call home! You will like it supernova; well parts of it anyway.

I can't argue that, not ALWAYS but MOSTLY right It's the socialist spirit in us that wants to turn the clocks back to 1968 and finish the struggle for a new America Despite the politics I really feel that we as humans MUST learn to LOVE one another and bring each other a sense of comfort. If wisdom has taught us anything it's this: We all want love and acceptance. The world is a very cold place because we're all socially inept. We need to find ways for people to shed less tears
I may like it or maybe not. I guess I'm not looking for the pretty outdoors and scenery. To me that's of least importance. I want a city with abundant resources, stable economy, where people are genuine and accepting of all kind. I don't want to see pro-Jesus banners while at the same time bashing people who march for anti-war or affordable housing. I don't want to see homeless bashing nor people who see prisons as the solution to our problems. Mainly I'd like to see you be able to leave your doors open at night and feel safe. I would like to see neighbors bringing cake over and inviting you out to dinner. I don't know if it's just me but I take manners very seriously. None of us need to hurt other people. That's what I look for from the social standpoint. I'm all for variety, art, sex theaters, regular theaters, bookstores, tattoo parlors as well as the trendy boutiques, churches and whatever else comes to mind. I want to see a CITY with VARIETY. Somewhere everyone can live and be happy, so (genuine people) are very important.
The rest will fall in to place. If all the elements are there, or at least most of them, I wouldn't even think about the weather. Because then I can say, hey, it's worth living here for the "atmosphere." It would be foolish to move to a city just to walk through the Rose Garden and find the atmosphere to be stuffy full of snobbish people full of ego
What attracts me to Portland is the "weirdness" I want to be SURPRISED just once. I want to see a city that "feels" different than the rest. I want to see people who are tolerant and yet pro-active. That's my hope

Well supernova, if you want all that in a nut shell, then you're dreaming. I just don't think it exists in today's World anymore; or has it ever even? Maybe half, maybe a quarter, but not the full shabang! Everyone want's their true Utopia, but it just doesn't exist! At least I haven't seen/heard of it. You have to compomise in some way or another, and in my honest opinion, a lot of what you are looking/hoping for does thrive in parts of Portland!! The "weirdness" definitely! There is a strong sense of love and tolerance in parts I have visited, but again, you have to find those pockets because IMPO Portland is very broad in the sense of diversity/lifestyle.

My sentiments exactly, NatureGirl. The best one can hope for is a place that will meet most of one's needs and attend to those and not worry about what else is lacking. Ultimately, we all make our own worlds rather than expecting a place or other people to make ours, and, hopefully, we find one that comes close.
