Default Asian Markets

Hi all!

Can anyone point me in the right directions for Asian markets in the Portland area that Asians frequent?

Thanks.

In North Portland on Killingsworth near I-5 is a beat up looking market - called Vieng Lao. It looks small from outside, but they actually have a good selection of Asian foods very cheap, including 50lb bags of rice for $20.

If you're able to venture further out, there is a huge new market on SE 82nd St somewhere around Stark (2850 SE 82nd Ave) called Fubon. Uwajimaya is out toward Beaverton - that place is so big it's overwhelming.

Anzen near the convention center is mostly Japanese products. Great little store.

Beaverton has Uwajimaya, the big (Seattle-based?) chain and a host of smaller stores in that general area. The east end of Sandy Blvd. has a lot of smaller Asian stores, and 82nd, below about Division, has the Fun Bon (I think that's the name - the restaurant right there is the Malay Satay Hut), a new retail center with Asian food and a market. There are lots of smaller stores scattered here and there as well.

Uwajimaya would be the most complete, with foods from a wide swoth of Asian cultures, with a large focus on Japanese. For Southeast Asian specific, (Thai, Viet, Malayasian etc)I would shop at a place on Halsey and I want to say 58th?? (or close to there) called Pacific Market...at it was called that when I lived in PDX. There are quite a few Thai stores and markets in Beaverton and a large market that had a greater portion of Chinese in Beaverton...(road starts with an S...big road...tip off my tongue....freeway exit.....driving me crazy.....oooops ...gone) maybe someone can help further. (store name begins with an A....tip of my tongue....forgot name) Geez Ive been gone only 18 months...already forgetting!! I live in Tokyo now, want me to Fed Ex some natto??

Default Asian Stores around Portland

There is also another one on 82nd. It is between stark and division. The store has a great selection of authentic Korean and Japanese food. Store is also clean and it seems popular among Asian people.

Another store is located off of 82nd and one block north of Foster. I believe the name of store was called either "Oriental Food Value" or "Oriental Food Market". This store carries a large variety of Asian food as well.
