My husband has been offered a job in Hillsboro and we are relocating from Texas. Job starts beginning of October so we are looking for a short term rental that is furnished for him about a month while he looks for a place for the family. Does anyone have any ideas on where to look? I have checked the Residence Inn and Extended Stay places but they run about $1,500 month. We don't want to get into a lease since it will be about a month before the family moves up and we don't know what area or what schools would be good for us until he has a chance to look around.

You'll need to look at Craiglist, but beware the scams.

The problem is that Oregon doesn't really do a lot of furnished rentals. The Residence Inn in Tannasbourne (the one you probably looked at,) caters heavily to Intel folks, but there isn't a lot of call for extended stay services here.

The other option is to contact the HR department of the company he's looking at and see what they have for suggestions. They may even be willing to help foot the bill somewhat, or be able to offer an discount.

Major employers on the west side often have contracts with extended stay hotels. Yes, do ask HR.

I lived in a Motel 6 for 3 months. Its not cheap, but they do have weekly rates. single person should be way south of 1500. Its just 1 month. Motel 6 was reasonably safe and secure and I had a maid. I like it better than flopping on someones couch.

Cheers
