I am moving to Portland soon. I have had my LPN since 2004. I will work nights, weekends, agency...etc!

I have a lot of pediatric experience, some geriatric, home health, and flu shot/health fair experience.

Any leads would be appreciated!

I don't want to be too much of a downer about this, but you should know something about nursing jobs in Oregon. In general, they pay better than adjoining areas. In general, there are MANY more nursing schools per capita in Oregon than there are in other places. As a result, there are a lot of nurses fighting over the same high paying jobs.

Employers know this, so they can increase your workload proportionately.

If you're very good you can do well, and I wish you a lot of luck in your job search. The sign-on bonuses went the way of the Dodo about ten years ago, and since then 20 classes of new grads have graduated from at least 13 schools in the Portland to Salem area. A lot of them are moving away to find.... something. Anything.

Nurses with a lot of experience who can do anything remain in high demand, so it's not a foregone conclusion. It just depends on how good you are. There are long distances between hospitals and it's a low population state. Your coworkers will judge you on how good you are. Most hospitals are tough but fair, and work you hard.

But, you get to live in a low cost of living state with a higher than average pay rate.

Los Angeles for example is much more forgiving in terms of quality of care, but pays less considering the cost of living.

I'd love to have a great LPN to work with, so come on over if that sounds like what fits you.

I recently found out from a friend that she gets a lot of work from temp agencies in the Nursing field. She'll work a short contract, frequently turns down full time employment with the companies, then travels with her husband's job in her off time.

You can find a complete list of all Portland Temp Agencies here (http://www.hamell.net/2010/03/portland-temp-agencies/ - broken link).

Thanks to both of you! I think agency is the way to go...then an assignment may lead into full-time

I love agency work anyway, kind of get to pick and choose!
