Hey, I'm pretty new to the Northwest and will spend this weekend in the Portland area. I have been looking to find some good thrift stores. Can anyone help me out?

There's plenty of Goodwill stores and you'd be helping a good cause. Check the net for locations and hours.

Many charities & non-profits have thrift stores, in NW there is the William Temple House Thrift Shop on Glisan. They have more donated furniture than most shops.

Goodwill has the largest overall selection but Portland has lots of resale shops if vintage clothing is your interest, there are a couple along NW 23rd. I am sure there are clusters in other neighborhoods.

There are a couple large consignment furniture stores as well.

Don't overlook Portland's estate sales. There you will find many household and costume jewlery offerings, often of excellant quality.

Thanks. I googled last night and they focused on the NW area.

The Jr. League used to have a fantastic thrift store called the Bargain Tree at various locations on the west side. I see something with that name on the east side but I wonder if it is the same shop.

If you want a real experience, try a trip to "The Bins" out in Sellwood. Real bargains to be had, if you can survive the experience. They sell clothes at (or did ... I don't know current price) $1.50 a pound.

Here's the list of Thrift Stores on Yelp. Where to go depends a lot on what you're looking for there.

If you will be in the SE 82nd area, just over the Clackamas County border, there is a Salvation Army, Deseret Industries, and Goodwill in pretty quick succession - all on the east side of SE 82nd. My wife (a thrift clothing princess) likes Deseret Industries the most.

Another tip from my wife - she's only been at the Goodwill Bins in Sellwood, once, but she said she'll definitely take gloves the next time. Apparently it's not very hygiene friendly.

("The D.I." is run by the LDS Church... I never realized they had a store up here.)
