Just out of curiosity. I wouldn't say I've heard about them alot. From what I understand there is a fair share of them. I've heard alot of mixed reports. Some say NE Portland, some say SE Portland. Though I've heard a few other neighborhoods mentioned as well. So what are some of the neighborhoods that have gang presence?

And No I'm not seeking them out lol, I'm just curious with what you could say is morbid curiosity because I've heard about a gang presence in and around Portland yet I've never seen any markings or anything like that

Tagging is not so popular in Oregon. The tags you see are generally wannabe bangers, street artists, or street signs for locating drug dealers. The population is small enough that it's hard to remain anonymous, and an armed citizenry is not going to put up with being run off their own streets. Anyone with no criminal record over the age of 21 can get a permit to carry a concealed handgun. Many people do.

There's plenty of organized crime in Oregon, but it's run by adults as a business. Street violence is bad for business.

We don't have ethnic enclaves. Gang members have cars and, based on my watching of the local news, take occasional pot shots at one another as they drive past the hang-out of an 'other'. Sometimes they hit someone, not always who they thought they were aiming at.

It seems to me that the incidents have increased but they are still occasional.

The most recent car shooting does not appear to be gang related or random. A married father of one, opera singer, choir director, Master's Degree in Music. This investigation should be fascinating.

There is authentic, not just wannabee, gang activity in Ontario, Oregon and across the river in Idaho. For example:

Gang member sought on attempted murder charges | KTVB.COM Boise

USDOJ: US Attorney's Office - District of Idaho

The Ontario police department says there are six active gangs in the area and has an officer assigned to gang enforcement:

The crime rate in Ontario is much, much higher than most other Eastern Oregon towns.
