I'm very curious to know how your experience was with this. We're in very much the same situation (3 year old, husband, me, 3 cats), about to move from Portland to the east coast. RV rental seems like the only logical approach...

Not quit what I thought the question was. In November of 2000 I moved across country in my Class A RV from Portage Indiana to the Willamette Valley of Oregon returning home after several years in the Midwest.
