So, my folks are in town and I was looking for a good restaurant recommendation that would be something of an "experience." Have any of you been to Salty's on the Columbia, Three Degrees, or any other restaurant on the water? Or, are there any restaurants you could recommend for families visiting?

I've been to Salty's and Three Degrees. In fact, we went to Salty's when relatives were in town. It's a nice view and their breakfast buffet is pretty good. I've only been to Three Degrees for happy hour so I haven't taken advantage of their view.

I have been to lunch at the Newport Seafood Grill which is on a dock sort of near Three Degrees. Both of those places are good if you're taking the relatives on the tram. Salty's is better if you're also heading out to the gorge as it's pretty far east.

Loved Newport Seafood on the dock. View was awesome and food is always great! Sure miss Portland! If the Cameo Cafe is still around it was awesome! There was one in NW Portland, and one in NE over by the Grotto. Very small cafe, but food is SO worth it!

I concur with the suggestion of Newport Seafood on the dock not so much for the food but for the setting. Be sure to make reservations because in tourist season it can be very busy. It is a moderate walk to/from the streetcar (3-4 blocks) but is the best way to enjoy that part of Waterfront Park IMHO. After your meal take the streetcar to the tram.

Leave yourself plenty of time before the meal to take in the activities around the boat basin. In the summer the south portion of Waterfront Park is very popular.

I really like Salty's. That would be my choice. Is there any type of food your relatives prefer?

Pretty conservative eaters, nothing too fancy or spicy.

I think they could find that at Salty's. I am a spice-wimp myself and I never have a problem there. Also there is the Chart House on Terwilliger I think they might like as well. You can look up the menu on their website.
