Can anyone recommend a Realtor that I could work with to find a rental property? Would love to be able to have someone show us some properties while I'm visiting Portland.

Advice on specific Realtors is not allowed in these forums. Also, Portland area does not have a lot of Realtors who help with rental properties. You can Google for a few companies, but most of them are just scrapers of Craigslist.

PadMapper.com seems to be the favorite around here.

There are some firms that own/manage several buildings but there is no one who will sashay you from one to another. Use padmapper to target a neighborhood(s) that interests you and has units in your budget and visit properties.

There are rental management companies who will rent to you. Obviously they will only rent or show you those apartments which they manage. You will be sending your rent checks and making your apartment upkeep complaints to them. If you google Portland neighborhoods, you can find them. They are hit or miss. Some are okay some are not. If you can look them up on Yelp or websites like that you may be able to find ratings by tenants or former tenants. The problem with those though, is it's usually only the disgruntled ones who bother to comment.

Exactly. I take all Internet comments with a grain of salt, especially when it comes to apartment reviews. Sometimes you even get staff from other complexes making false claims about their competitors. If you believed every online review, you'd be convinced that every apartment in the country is infested with crack dealers and cockroaches.
