Ice and/or snow both happen rarely, unless you're up in areas of high elevation. It's nothing much to worry about.

We do occasionally get icy roads. Not too often. Sometimes black ice. Just listen to the weather reports on the radio or TV. They are really good about letting people know what the driving condtions are. Most likely you will not be running into any of this.

If it is raining while you are here, just exercise common sense and don't try to break any speed records. You will be fine.

It doesn't happen often. My gut is late January, early February events that last a day or two.

Nell's right, it's usually a Jan-Feb thing, but it can happen earlier. Remember Thanksgiving week in (I think) 2010? The temperature went below freezing Monday night and didn't go above until Thursday afternoon. That was really unusual, both for its duration and how early in the season it was. I've been in Portland 18 years and that was the worst freeze I can recall. One three-day freeze in 18 years isn't bad.

Oh ya. DH & I were driving from Portland to the Bay Area for Thanksgiving. A white knuckle trip.
