My husband is considering a job in Portland about 2 miles South of airport. What areas would you suggest to live in and not have a horrible commute (45 mins or less preferably)?

We have two small children so schools are important. Housing would need to be less than 500k. Prefer newer neighborhoods.

Thanks in advance!

The area known as "Happy Valley" may work for you. I don't know what schools serve that area but you can use Your Schools - The Oregonian to focus your search.

FYI, 2 Miles south of the Airport is light years difference from "near the airport." Especially at your price range. Do you have some cross streets?

Yeah, I'd definitely dip down over the Clackamas County line, along I-205. It's going to be better schools. One exception is, you don't want to get too close to Clackamas Town Center. Not a great area crime-wise, and really congested.

Rockwood, Troutdale, Most of the East side. For $500K you can live where ever you want. Where are you from anyway?

We currently live in Columbus GA. Moved here 18 months ago. GA is not our cup of tea so looking elsewhere. We lived in Houston for 10 yrs prior to this and enjoyed everything but the super hot weather. My husband is currently interviewing for jobs in Portland and Denver but the Portland one seems more promising.

My concern about Troutdale is that it gets a lot of weather, particularly wind, coming through the Columbia River Gorge.

Just looking at the towns the OP has lived in, and the fact that she wants a 'newer community', I think they are a fit for Happy Valley (which is a description of an area, not a town).
