As the father of several sons and the grandfather of my son's sons, I get reminded what male youth is like everyday. (Keeps me young)
It all boils down to what kind of person you are and how you handle yourself in adverse situations.

I have one son who was born for adventure and you couldn't keep him pinned down with a steady job and a family for a million bucks. He would think nothing of moving 1000 miles with a dream and a few hundred bucks in his pocket just because he got a wild hair. He's had his tough times, but would not live any other way. He's in his early thirties, but has experienced more in his life than many people I know. Sometimes I am a bit jealous of him.

One of my sons got married early, has a steady professional job, a wonderful wife and family, but would go absolutely batsnot crazy living without schedules and structure and safety nets. Nothing is done without a purpose and a plan with backups for unexpected contingencies. He needs the security. (BTW, he's hell to go camping with)

Just depends on who you are and what kinds of risks you are willing to take.
Remember that the city kind of life (college, corporate jobs, service jobs, yada, yada, yada) isn't the only way to make a buck out there.

I didn't finish College until 2004-2007. Started in 1967. Five colleges later after I retired I spent three years full time finishing two degrees, and started on my Native American Law and Chicano/Latino Studies duel minor degree in 2007.

All while seeking three political offices and serving an appointment in public service. Don't tell me seniors are not adventursome. And this doesn't even count my current active hobbies and avocations.

I wasn't a Senior but I began college in 1963 and didn't finish until 1975. I went back in 2002 and got a paralegal degree in 2004. So yeah, there is no age limit on achievement.

Isn't it great that you tried, and accomplished, things that lots of people probably would have advised you against, as being impractical.

Always Learn. The only reason I stopped is because I was spending money to learn because I wanted to. I was not learning to earn as I was retired already in 2000. It just didn't make sense anymore.

Theres tons of jobs here for your skillset, just like in almost every other city of similar size. But theres also a lot of people looking for each job. Up your game, better dressed, whiter teeth, cleaner clothes, better resume.

Just out of curiosity, when was the last time you looked for a job in the OP's skillset and how long did it take you to find one? Since he just moved here without one, I would imagine he would like to be able to connect with one very soon so maybe you could give him a time frame based upon your experience? It could be helpful to him.
