You will have lots of options. The info we need is the physical location of your job.

If you will be commuting by car the best value for you may be right across the Columbia River, I-205 bridge. Keep in mind that you will pay Oregon income tax (check with your peers if you are a flight attendant). Cascade Park East is a nice neighborhood. I wouldn't rent along the river west of the airport because it is in the PDX flight path.

If you can use the MAX airport line TriMet: MAX Red Line Map and Schedule (Service to Portland Airport) you have lots of options.

Hip neighborhoods tend to be expensive. I would include in that description close in NW, SW, Hawthorne, NE Broadway around 15th. Further afield consider the Clinton neighborhood around Café Broder.

Alberta sounds like it has a mix of what you want. $1100 should be comfortable, $900 won't get you anything awesome. You can hit Killingsworth then 82nd North to Airport Way. You can be to the terminal in less than 15 mins or Shopping in 20 at Cascade Station. I commute every day 30 mins morning, then 1 hr in the afternoon, and I wish I would have chose a place closer to the office.

It's already up and came. Unfortunately, that means no bargains are to be had anymore.

Alberta is very nice, it's cookie cutter hip. Your $1100 will fit right in. I would stick to the N, NW or NW side of town. If you go SE it will could take a bit more of your commute time to the airport. The downtown area would be okay but still, if you can get closer to the airport, that's what I would do.

you wanna live in SE no matter where your job is. Especially around the Hawthorne/Belmont areas.

Why are you moving to Portland all the way from there? Portland is becoming increasingly liberal and following in the footsteps of San Francisco, only come if you can handle that and the rain.
