We're buying a small camper / travel trailer to tow behind us for the big move to Portland - it will be at the dealership on Thursday for us to pick up on Saturday! About a month to go, can't wait!

That's all, just excited.

See if you can have it registered in Oregon (we have no sales tax) and get a temporary registration. You will need an address in Oregon.

You'll need to have your Oregon Driver's license to register the travel trailer.
Congrats on your move. How exciting!!

Well most of those dealer registrations are good for 60 days. When they get here one could obtain a driver's license. They need to talk it over with the selling dealership.

Don't overload it. If you were planning on using it to haul your stuff, the cargo weight on these is low. I bent the axel on a 26 foot 5th wheel. The dealer in Salem said it was not designed to haul anything but itself, water, and 500 pounds of gear. It wore a set of tires to the cord in 2,000 miles. The axel was $1,200 and tires $160.

Have to agree with Steve's cautionary note - most big manufacturers (like, say, Forest River, cause of my current trailer headaches) cheap out on the axle rating. My 17' trailer weighs 2,800 lbs dry, is rated for full capacity at 3,475 (propane tanks, water tank partly full plus all the regular camping stuff) and the axle is rated at 3,500 lbs. Unfortunately that 3,500 lbs is really 3,500 lbs, and does not have a margin of safety built in. We bent the axle towing down a slightly bumpy (but not badly washboarded) gravel road. The company replaced the axle with an "upgraded" model which did the same thing the next trip out. We had to replace it with a 5,000# axle on our own dime.

I agree, don't overload! When I look back at the OP's postings she and her spouse are traveling with pets and a small child. Food, clothes, bedding, a few toys for the little one.. enough! Dump your black and gray water every day if possible and connect to the campground fresh water by hose. Don't waste fuel transporting waste. Need I say do not transport humans in the trailer while underway?
