Just Moved 2 Portland: Need A Rental (me & 2 cats)
Well I took a leap of faith  and made the move. Arrived in Portland last week and do need a place to rent. Really liking the NE area (parts that I've seen so far anyway). Staying in a hotel which is getting expensive. Places I've looked so far:Periodicals: Willamette Weekly The Mercury The (Sunday) Oregonian Also looking online: Craig's List Willamette Weekly Online Housing Connections.org movingtoportland.net/rentals.htm oregonhumane.org (the pet friendly rental listings - will start on those phone calls in the morning) Message Boards: Wild Oats groceries: 15th in the NE and also Laurelhurst That is what I can remember at the end of this day. Any suggestions? I do like message boards (school was ages ago but any worthy college boards in existence?), of course, but any resource that is good and that offers pet friendly options (2 cats) would be appreciated. I'm looking at ads that range from $450 up to $525 for studios and even some 1 bedrooms. They are out there (a few) in what seem to be decent neighborhoods - but I'm still getting to know the city and need a place where the cats can also go outdoors and be safe there. Preferably somewhere with a fenced in yard and some privacy. Not mandatory but preferable. In-law apartments/cottages are more than welcome. Also studios. Any of these that meet the above criteria. I have definitely seen share rentals in this range but I need to live alone right now so this is key as well. Open to all fantastic ideas. Thanks!

Best to go with an apartment management company. Also best to walk around and look for "For rent" signs in the area that appeals to you. These would be the fastest way and most direct way. The apt. management company receives a commission for the landlord for finding a tenant, so no worries for you there.

Thanks for that advice. I had just been thinking about signing on with a rental agency. Seems like it might be the simplest any cleanest way to go. Letting them to the hunt. Did call about one for rent sign I saw a few days ago. But that could get exhausting - even more of a reason to go with a service - so thumbs up on that one. Thanks again~~

we had to move w/2 dogs, 1 cat, 1 parrot, and 2 large fish tanks and finding a rental that would take that (plus the three kids lol) was a challenge. We found a place when I just opened up the phone book and started calling property management companies. Called one, told the lady what all we had, and she says "Wow, I just got a listing today that hasnt even been posted yet. duplex, takes pets, 3bdrm" We took it. lol we paid for the 1st/last, a pet deposit and that was that. no other fees. might be a thought....
depends too on what you can afford to pay someone and your timeframe. good luck! tiffany ps - have you put up a sign at the local vet? might be a good way to find a petfriendly owner willing to rent.....
