Thanks for the update. We'll just stick to the coast. That makes it more simple. I want it to be comfortable, lazy trip. Totally agree!

Hopes, did you check out this place on the Oregon coast? Looks amazing...

TU TU TUN Lodge welcomes you to Gold Beach on the beautiful Southern Oregon Coast

Also, I just read an article about how wonderful and relaxing Lake Crescent Lodge is on the Olympic Peninsula once you get up there...

Hello! Sorry I haven't posted. I was busy packing. We've been here for a week. Just finishing up the California part of our trip. I posted a trip report in this thread for that part of the trip: http://www.city-data.com/forum/calif...t-must-11.html I think it's post #103. We're in Fort Bragg now, stayed here last night. We'll be heading into the Oregon Coast this evening. There is no route/plan anymore. We met amazing people at Yosemite who loaned us their second house in Tahoe to use. I cancelled all of our reservations so we could go there. Now we're winging it and having a blast.

Our goals in Oregon are as follows: Travel the coast very slowly. Get up to Portland. Perhaps stay in Portland for a couple of nights because want to see so many things nearby including the wine country. We skipped Napa and opted for having the wine experience in Oregon. We're in a good place entering Oregon with 8 or 9 nights left for the entire trip. We are going to take our time and explore!

While on the coast, don't miss Cannon Beach - the quintessential Oregon Coast town.
Tolovana Inn has some very reasonable rates, starting with 69 dollars per night (for a room with no view of the ocean)
Don't forget that Oregon Coast is for active recreation - hiking, running, kayaking etc., certainly not for sunbathing.

What are the "must sees" for Portland and Oregon state?

We're thinking of flying with a tent so we can camp on occasion.

I'd love to hear your ideas!
It probably has been brought up already but Voodoo Doughnuts is a must see. If I ever go to Portland, I'll want to go.

We're excited about the active recreation part. We have enjoyed exploring the coast---hiking and climbing everywhere. Cannon Beach is a definite goal for us!

Thanks for the tip. We've added Portland as a goal because there are many things nearby we want to see and do.

We might be in the area at the same time. We have a cabin in Trinidad tonight. We're leaving here tomorrow morning to find a place at the beach in Oregon for two nights. I promised hubby we wouldn't drive more than 4 hours each day from this point forward. Bandon is 3.5 hours away from here and North Bend is 4 hours away. We'll be at Bandon, Coos Bay or North Bend for Sunday and Monday nights.

Thanks! Ashland isn't possible, but I'll research Detroit Lake and Mt. Bachelor to see where they're located.
