Yeah, I think the West Coast has never been quite as fond of Walmart. When I grew up in the Bay Area during the '90s I don't ever remember going to a Walmart. It was always Kmart or Target.

I went in once after it soon opened, and while the workers were friendly, the prices were higher then Fred Meyers for my preferred brands and specific items. That is, if they even carried my preferred brands. I still ended up going to New Seasons and Fred Meyers to round out my grocery trip. Over all it was a very small store, seemed very cramped and despite it's newness still felt old, dingy and dirty.
The one on Holgate and 82nd closest to me and was always jam packed the few times I have been there. I much prefer Target anyway. K-Mart is okay. I am looking forward to the opening of the Target downtown. I can get to it so easily by bus.

Isn't the one on B-H an old Zupan's that went out of business because no one ever shopped there?

I wish the downtown Target was there when I lived on the edge of downtown. I wouldn't of even needed to use my car when I needed to get socks. Target was one of my runs I would do with my car once in a while because there was nothing in walking or biking distance.

I'm also super excited about the City Target opening next month. I've been to the one in SF and Seattle and liked them. They're definitely smaller but still have most of the good stuff. I also appreciated the humor that Target put a bird on the sign when you enter (by the escalators), Portlandia style.

They might have bought the old Zupan's building, but last time I drove by it was still empty also. The Neighborhood Walmart in Beaverton is closer to Tannasbourne on Cornell Road, it was a furniture store before that.

SETabor's right, the old Zupan's on B-H is now a Walmart Neighborhood Market. It's been open for a few months.

Good for them, and good luck with it then. That's a bad location IMO.

I wonder if Zupan's couldn't compete with New Seasons down the street? I've been in Zupan's once (the Johns Landing location) and got sticker shock. Excellent quality, but very expensive.
