So, I just printed the 128 page Oregon Driving Manual (sorry, trees) and before I read it (when I finally get time to) I thought I would pick my C-D buddies' minds as to the differences between the road rules in California and Oregon. Anything major you noticed? I mean the actual laws, not the fact Californians interpret the speed limit as a starting point, or that Oregonians interpret it as being too high.

If you have the manual I would read it through and then you tell us.

You're always such a charmer, Steve. I won't tell you what I think you should do with the manual, but I'm sure you'll get it.

Be nice. I was serious. Why would you clog a net with a question when you have the answer in your hand?

This puts you about two rungs below those who ask the same question that was asked twenty times before, because they are too lazy to do a search first. Yes it happens all the time, but that doesn't make you a steller forum denizen.

If you are just looking to chat say so.

Here's one: you can turn left on a red light if you are turning onto a one-way street. Unless it's marked otherwise.

People in Oregon actually stop at stop signs.

California counts a double line as a six inch high curb.

First of all, I did Google it, but believe it or not it's not a hotly discussed topic. Second, if I can get some crib sheets, or have someone say "There really aren't any substantive differences" that will make life a lot easier for me. Third, perhaps someone will point me in the way of a condensed version, rather than the 128 full size pages behemoth I just printed.

As I said in my original post, I intend to read it, but I don't know when I can get to it. Believe it or not, with my move barreling straight at me (the movers are here in 7 days) and a full time job and three children, I am short on free time right now and looking for a little help from my C-D friends.

The only thing that I know for sure is that if you drive a motorcycle, you cannot split lanes in OR like you can in CA.

You will need to read it or like many others who think they don't need to, you may fail the test. You must change your license within 30 days. Less if you have already paid your rent and turned on utilities. DMV cross checks utility records with licensee's. It's one of the ways they catch cheaters. The other is the routine police patrols record out of state plates that frequint the same local. Sometime automaticly in the Portland area.
