Just remember Portlandia is a mythical TV Show, not a real place.

I'm not sure I'd like the weather in Portland, I love 75-95 degree days a lot. Anyways, what's Portland really like? I should of said way more about me, sorry. What's the job outlook over there for Network Admins and the like? Would I honestly be okay supporting the Timbers when I'm currently a partial season ticket holder for RBNY? Can I live without NHL hockey?!!!!!!!!!! Ah!
You wouldn't like it.

SUPER LIBERAL......more than what you're probably wanting to deal with

FISHING SUCKS.......Very few lakes within a reasonable driving distance. The Willamette river does have OK fishing at times.

HIPSTER CAPITAL OF THE UNIVERSE.......it's ridiculous

JOB MARKET IS POO POO...........real talk

WEATHER BLOWS.......it's overcast like 8 months out of the year

don't listen to these people about Seattle. It's just a bigger version of Portland, but on the sound and with worse fishing.

Austin would be a better fit for you IMO

Less liberal, better job market, awesome weather,

Also, great Bass fishing in local lakes, and the gulf is only a few hours away for a weekend fishing trip on Padre Island,

Haha, I will agree with that. Two years in Jersey was two years too many.

It's a 2 hour or more drive if you live in Portland proper. You can't just get off work and go fishing in the Columbia if you live in Portland. It's a drive and the traffic is murder. Also, the fishing isn't that great. As someone that's lived all over this country, the fishing in the PNW is gone because of the type of fish we have up here. When I was a kid, the fishing in Washington and Oregon was amazing. Now days, it's more trouble than it's worth IMO. I live in Seattle now, and the sound has literally been stripped dry. It's really sad.

The thing is, down south the sport fishing is awesome because you can't really fish bass, crappie or catfish out. They reproduce at a rate that even urban lakes have awesome fishing. You can literally drive 20 minutes from down town Austin and catch a 10lb bass in an urban lake. That doesn't exist in this part of the country. I've caught some decent small-mouth and pan fish in the Willamette while doing some urban fishing in Portland, but nothing spectacular, and lake fishing in Portland is a Joke. There is only one lake within driving distance with decent fishing and it's private.

just keeping it real brother

I don't recall Portland being known for having lots of lakes around it. That is like complaining that there isn't an ocean near Kansas.

River fishing is always much harder than lake fishing because fish have no where to go in a lake.

I'm not complaining that their are not too many lakes around Portland, I'm just pointing that out to the TS, that is considering moving to Portland, as he likes to fish.

Also, I wouldn't say that river fishing is any more difficult than lake fishing. I would say that river fishing in the PNW is actually easier unless you consider catching stocked trout with power bait fishing.
