How are you going to support the hourds of illegals and homeless?
What are the economic forecasts for Portland and how can that information help people?
How is the gridlock traffic going to be managed in the future?
Why does sex and gambling have such a big profile in Portland?
When are Portlanders going to stop overselling the quality of life?
When are landlords going to set higher standards for their property?
If Portland is so unique, why does it need to be compared with other cities?

Why can't people on this forum stick to the issues? Are they just looking for a scapegoat (anyone woman or Californian is the real problem..right?)

So you understand that if you move to Portland, this guy could become your next door neighbor and in fact, this is "type" for Portland.

In Arizona, when someone walks around in a haze, we call them "sunstroked". Anyone what to guess what we call a Portlander, when one walks around in a haze? Three guesses (the first two don't count).

If you knew anything about Portland, you'd know we do have new restaurants opening. I don't really have my finger on the pulse of it, but I did see notice of one called Ned Ludd which opened on the 23rd. And of one called Pitxi opened just after Thanksgiving. I'm sure there are others. I did find an interesting thread on the Sacramento Yelp board, with a long, long list of restaurants which closed there this year.

The only place that sex and gambling have a big profile seems to be in your mind. Wonder what that means?

And I'm happy to hear it was sunny in Sacramento today, since it looks like you've had quite a few days of total overcast. I was only out briefly during the day today, but tonight I was admiring all the stars in the sky. Lovely.

I don't consider Portland to be so unique, I just think it has the best compilation of the all things I consider important in a hometown. But surely you understand that one can't determine something is unique unless one has other things to compare it to. Otherwise, it'd just be. Good can't exist without evil. Ugly can't exist without pretty. And trolls can't exist without helpful posters.

In my generation, we learned not to believe there is any such thing as a "typical female response," or conversely, a "typical male response." We rejected those as sexist attitudes.

And why am I not surprised that you think name-calling is clever.

This message arrived today from my cousin, a structural engineer and all this side of the family are Portland natives.


"I suspect that we will be moving her some time soon. In spite of the remodel they did to the building, they managed to circumvent the building code requirements for handicap accessibility. I think there may have been some hanky panky, because the omissions are blatant, no ramp to front door, thus several steps to the main entrance, no automated doors, latches and windows inoperable for light lifting pushes, etc."

He is referring to having to move my elderly aunt because her Portland slumlord lied...

Remember the story I told about contractors coming to my third story apartment building on S.W. 170th and tearing off the balconies, while families with children were living inside? Remember I called Washington County and they red tagged the job in about 20 minutes? Neither the building owners or the contractors had permits?

Is there some reason you see fit to fight with me, when you should be using your ideas of morality in your own community to set some ethical standards so old, disabled people and children don't suffer?

To anyone, who plans to rent in Portland. Take any small cord into any apartment you might think about renting. Plug it into any wall outlet. If it falls out, you will know the truth about remodel. You will be shocked at how many times the plug will fall out of the wall.

Fix your own problems and then attack other women and Californians...this is why I fight with you because you don't get it. You think Californians created all your problems, you scapegoat, as a way of avoiding responsibity.

That is the height of immoral behavior.

It's interesting to read through the posts and realize that no one has said or implied the types of problems you have described don't exist. No one has said or implied that steps shouldn't be taken to ensure that disabled people and children don't suffer. They have merely taken exception to stereotyped gender characterizations and overall Portland bashing you continually employ (and this is coming from someone not at all enamored with Portland). As such it could well be argued that you, not they, are the one who pulls the thread off topic.

She is in her mid 70's and has to leave a Portland apartment because of a slumlord.

Now hear this, Portlanders. If you don't get pro-active about your liberal, bulls.... ideas that allow people to act out, illegally, immorally and cause more human suffering, you are a shameful community...uncultured, uncivilized and shameful.

If you don't get together in some community actions groups, or boycott city hall, or get civilized any way you can kiss your butts goodbye 'cause you are nothing.

You claim to be a very successful businesswoman. This means that you must possess a fair amount of money.

If you would have helped your aunt, the cornerstone of your family, financially, she would not have had to live in a slum apartment to begin with. That would have been the moral thing to do.

You know what some of these off the wall comments remind me of....

when my girlfriend and I were about 12, we used to sit in my bedroom in Portland with the telephone and we called any random number we found in the phone book.

When someone answered, we would say, "Is your refrigerator running?"

If they said "yes",

We would say, "Well you'd better go out and catch it."

That's what some of your remarks remind me of... how old are you?
