They are hotter than I thought they would be - what's hardest for me to get used to is that the sun is strongest around 5 pm instead of noon!

It was awful when I was living in a high-up apartment with no central A/C, but it is cooler now that we are on a ground floor.

I think they're too hot but admittedly, I'd be thrilled if it was 65-70 all summer and am a self avowed hot weather wimp.

Nope, right on perfect. It's nice to have an extra hot day or two to break up the monotony of 75 degree days for weeks straight.

I'd rather have it broken with a 60 degree high day, but different strokes eh?

OP, you are not the only one. I feel the summers here are too warm for my liking. I loved living in Seattle for that reason. It was pretty close to the perfect climate for me. When it was 95 here, it would be 85 there. 75 here and it would be 65 there. Loved that. My ideal weather is probably 50s-60s and overcast. The coast or BC would be wonderful, too.

I am definitely glad I got a window unit for my apartment this last summer. It's a newer building, but being on the fourth floor with giant windows, even with the blinds shut, made it cook inside. And being that I have pets, air con is a must.

And, as a note, I have also noticed increased number of humid summer days in recent years. In that past I can hardly remember any humid summer days.

Not for me. I love hot summers. It occasionally gets a bit humid, but it's nothing compared to my native midwest. I do miss the crazy thunderstorms you get in the midwest though.

It was incredibly hot last summer. I lived in Florida for 8 years and it's like that almost every day there, but people rarely go outside and buildings are all really well air conditioned. In Portland there's not much escape from it. 70-75 is perfect summer weather. 80+ is too hot really.

Are summers too hot?

Right now, in January, no. Portland summers are not too hot.

In August, at the end of our 7-day string of temps in the upper 90s, yes. Portland summers are too hot.

Portland in July and August is damn near perfect in my opinion.

Definitely not too hot. I think we ran the AC 5 days last August.

Yes, I agree---July and August are humid---and the air quality is not that great, either. I'm going to get an ac this coming summer.
