I remember decades ago there was a pizza parlor in the Portland area that had an incredibly complex pipe organ that played cowbells, xylophones, pipes, etc. Does anyone remember the name of the place, and know what ever happened to the pipe organ?

That was the Organ Grinder. They had one of those symbol playing Monkeys and it was their biggest seller in the gift shop. They played silent movies too.

Also it was more than one Organ. It had one Wurlitzer keyboard controller, but he gathered pipe organs and amusement park mechanical bands from all over the world. The air pumps were huge.

I remember that place. Popular finish to field trips to OMSI or the school patrol reward trip to Oaks Park when I was in junior high up the river. (By the time I was in HS, the only official reason for going down that way was to beat the tar out of Corbett or Portland Lutheran in football, and we never stopped for pizza on those trips.) Seems a shame that it got parted out, but realistically, that would seem like a lot of overheard to be supported by a pizza parlor.

Does anyone remember that older lady who dressed weirdly in black, and stood out in front of the Organ Grinder with some kind of picket sign?

I think it was in the mid to late 80's.

Anyone know her story?

She used to be out there all day, everyday.
7 Days a week.

Then she just disappeared.

BTW,
The Organ Grinder sat empty for quite a while, then I think it turned into a mexican nightclub, and now I believe it's an asian restaraunt.
I haven't driven by it for a long while so I may be wrong.
