PdxMikepdx, This gave me a giggle. I've seen it many times on here, hoping it is only one guy. I am a teacher and I see fifth graders doing this to each other. My grammar isn't always perfect on here so I hope I'm never corrected when I'm just trying to share ideas.

If you're wanting to know about Vancouver, you really ought to ask on the Vancouver board, rather than the Portland board.

You'll probably get more knowledgeable responses.

It used to take me half an hour to commute from Vancouver to Woodland. My friend commutes from Vancouver to Longview. It takes her about 45-60 minutes each way.

Vancouver board is pretty quiet. OP might get more knowledgeable answers but would likely have to be patient waiting for them.

Sure, but really, it's off-topic for this board.

I've lived in Ridgefield for 7 years. Love it. LOW crime. We really like the schools. But it's a small town. The closest grocery store is in downtown on the old main street. it's a mom and pop store. It's more spendy but for a jug of milk I'd rather go down the street than the 10 miles to Walmart or Fred Meyers. It's quiet out here. I rarely see traffic this far north. Only if there's an accident. Sometimes in the summer you'll hit traffic because the amphitheater will have a concert and it gets congested. BUT there's lots of back roads to by pass the freeway. La Center is a little further North of Ridgefield. Also has great school funded by the Casino's I believe. Rent for a decent house in a good area is about $1300 and above anywhere in Vancouver/Ridgefield. We have two daughters under the age of 6. I'd never live in Orchards area or downtown Vancouver. Salmon Creek area off 134th is really nice with awesome schools. Hazel Dell is hit or miss. There are some areas that I think are nice. But the majority of the area I wouldn't let my kids play outside. Same with the Mall area and Mill plain/Fourth plain area, stay away from there. It's not that we have big gangs coming through. It's just areas that I wouldn't feel safe letting my kids walk to the bus stop alone. The places that we have found to feel safe with nice schools is East Vancouver, Camas area, Ridgefield, Salmon Creek, Felida, La Center, Hockinson, Battle Ground, and a few other neighborhoods I can't think of. I'm not sure where Longview came in to the conversation? But I'm not super familiar with the area. As much as I've heard Woodland, Kalama, and Longview don't have the best schools or super family friendly neighborhoods. But I couldn't be wrong. Just driving through and what I've heard they wouldn't be my number once place to live.

Also it takes me 25-30 minutes from my house (Ridgefield WA) to the Portland Airport which is off I205 and just crossed the border. And it takes me 15-20 minutes from my house to the Oregon border which is Jantzen Beach off I5. That's with no traffic. Not sure if you already know this? But Vancouver has 2 major freeways. I5 and I205 they both run North and South. They merge at the top of Vancouver and become I5, this is the major freeway that runs from Canada down to CA. So you should also see which freeway you'd need to cross into Portland.

FWIW, the Vancouver forums have picked up in the last 6 months with a few more regulars on board and more new threads.

I don't know that this thread in the Portland forum needed to be revived.

Traffic from Vancouver, WA to Portland is a nightmare. I see it everyday because I have a reverse commute from Portland to Vancouver. The traffic is always stopped.
