Do any of you go to school in PSU, or any colleges in Portland. Can you tell me if it is safe to leave your stuff in your room openly (I mean putting my laptop on the desk) when you actually sleep in the same room with your roommate? I am going to stay in a shared bedroom in U pointe, I know it is not the best choice but I have nothing else, I'm going to live with a person I've never met. What is the smart thing to do to avoid my stuff being stolen? I don't have too much valuable stuffs (laptop, wallet, passport and some documents).

I think you need a tea leaf reader, not a forum full of ordinary human beings. Seriously? Bring your roomate to lunch with me and mine. She will tell you if s/he is trust-worthy enough to leave an unsecured laptop around. Failing that... good luck. Maybe a locker downstairs? Safe deposit box?

You'll probably be fine. Just make sure to have clear rules about him/her bringing over friends to the room.

If you're worried get a locking filing cabinet and keep your stuff in there.
